Higher Word Conversations is a series designed for attendees eager to deepen their engagement with theology and culture.

Before our larger events, Higher Word began with intimate gatherings—nights of theological discussion in character-filled spaces across the city. This series continues that original spirit, offering monthly gatherings that blend rich theological exploration with impactful conversations and cultural experiences.

From thought-provoking discussions to outings like history walks or days at The Met Cloisters, These events let us connect more deeply with faith, beauty, and community.

We hope that these smaller and more intimate Conversations Evenings will mirror the work of the disciples as close friends gather away from the larger crowd to grow in faith together so that we can share the faith with those we encounter in our everyday lives.

Programming

  • Angels and demons both suffer from popular misperceptions, often reduced to silly caricatures. We will discuss who these powerful beings really are and how they relate to us.

  • Join us for an evening of wine tasting and poetry discussion, and see how both complement each other in deepening our understanding of God.

  • Heaven, Hell, and Purgatory: What do we know, how do we know it, and what can we do to get to one and avoid the others?

  • It’s the greatest obstacle to faith: why do bad things happen to good people? If God can prevent it and doesn’t, then he must not be all good. If he wants to prevent it, but can’t, then he must not be all powerful. How do we make sense of it all?
